Original 200-year-old Hand-colored Antique Botanical Prints from
The Universal Herbal...
by Thomas Green
(1816-1824).

The complete title of this accurately and absolutely delightfully hand-colored work is:
The Universal Herbal, or Botanical, Medical, and Agricultural Dictionary, containing an Account of all the known Plants in the World arranged according to the Linnean System, specifying the Uses to which they are or may be applied, wether as Food, as Medicine, or in the Arts and Manufactures, with the best Methods of Propagation and the most recent agricultural Improvements
.

But behind this title is a multitude of finely colored stipple engravings by some very fine early 19th century engravers who were engaged to produce this attractive collection of botanical prints for the publisher: Henry Fisher at Caxton Press Liverpool, 1816–1824.

The prints are generally in very good condition with slight age toning and sometimes light browning on margin edges. The Latin name from the Linnean System and common English name are generally given. Each print is dated.

Page size: approximately 10.5 x 8 inches (26.5 x 20.5 cm)
